dude! Diablo III!

What a story to see on Joystiq this morning - Diablo III has been announced! I almost had to re-check the calendar to make sure it wasn’t April 1st, and then I had to remember to keep breathing. Haha.

Blizzard’s also been nice enough to post a trailer and gameplay video. Apparently for each class you can choose to be male or female so that’s pretty sweet. Looks like they’re basically enhancing Diablo 2, as the mechanics seem pretty much the same (which is fine by me).

I wonder if this game will dominate my life over the next few years as Diablo 2 did back in the day. The last question in the current FAQ asks how much the game will cost - I almost laughed out loud at that - who cares how much it costs?! It’s Diablo 3!! And since it’s not an MMO it’s not like there will be a subscription cost.

Release date of course is not known… but from the gameplay video it looks like it’s ready for a freakin beta test. Man would I die to be a part of the beta test.

Just watched the trailers!!!! !!!! !!!! Agh! Awesome! Let’s play Diablo II until it comes out. I don’t know about not having potions though.

Apparently potions are still in the game, AND one potion will heal your entire party. The designer said to maximize the amount of time you’re in combat they didn’t want to rely on drinking potions between fights or having a regenerating “shield” that would encourage you to run away from battle in order to regenerate (a la Halo). So I guess the primary way of getting health is those little globs falling from monsters… makes me think of other game types like those arcade shooty games where you have to run into a powerup before it disappears off screen. Or sideways scroller games like Gunstar Heroes. I hope there will be healing spells… I don’t want to have to panic in the middle of the battle, desperately trying to spot, and then get to, a little glob of red on the screen.

I don’t have my installer discs for D2… if you’re serious about restarting lemme know and I’ll get them back or figure something out.

I’m rather excited about this. I haven’t played Diablo II in a loooooong time (probably since the last time we all played together). The graphics look AWESOME!
