bye Cookie =(

Dave Nonis traded one of my fave players, Matt Cooke, for Matt Pettinger. I don’t think I’d even heard of Pettinger before the trade today.

Matt Cooke, Canuck no more
Canuck no more, Matt Cooke

Pettinger is slightly bigger (2 inches, a few pounds), supposedly has a bigger offensive upside (thought it’s not shown this season), and is a (transplanted) BC boy. I will give the new Matt a fair chance, however I think Vancouver will miss Cooke. He’s a total Canuck and he and his wife contributed a ton to the community, creating their own charity, The Cooke Family Foundation of Hope.

Cooke, I hope you do awesome with the Capitals and their fans appreciate you as much as your fans here did.

As for the trading deadline, it deserves another d word in front of it: disappointing. At least from a Canucks fan standpoint. How many more years can Nonis go without getting us a scoring forward. Stop with the Isbisters and Ritchies and get someone that can put the puck in the net. We can only have so many grinding/gritty forwards. (I hope this Matt for Matt trade is a small step in that direction, although I really would have rathered we kept Cooke and got rid of the players that don’t even make it into the lineup day-to-day.)
